November 2006 Officer's Meeting Minutes

Here is a summary of the FOAM officer's meeting Tuesday Nov 14 held at Howard's house:

-Mike Lamb said that the day after Thanksgiving he would mail out the letter for renewing membership for 2007.  Still only $20!  He also said we currently have 88 members.

-Travelin Dave said our current funds are $1407.67.  We are still waiting to see the artwork logos for the beer cozies, which will probably cost around $300+  for 250 of them.  We also still have FOAM Wife T -shirts, and regular FOAM T-shirts and FOAM polo shirts for sale. T-shirt are just $10 each.

Jason Lamb brought up the Guild Holiday party which will be Saturday December 2.  Tickets are $25 & they're going fast. There will be Mediterranean food. Also, homebrew only for the first hour before they open up the taps.
Contact Les White for tickets.  We also need people to bring door prizes (pint glasses, etc.). Jason will look into getting gift certificates from local brew pubs. Les will send out a list of the charitable organizations to which the proceeds will be donated.

Les needs help finding officers for the Guild. Guild meetings are held on the second Monday of every month.

It was also mentioned that perhaps we could bring the winners of Maryland homebrew clubs together for a grand Best-of-Maryland Homebrewer contest.

  Upcoming events:
Next FOAM meeting is Monday Dec. 4th.
Next Officers meeting is Tuesday Dec. 12th  at Mike Lamb's house.
FOAM Christmas party is Friday Dec 15th at Mike & Patty's house. Patty will announce the menu, but people will also bring desserts & side dishes (oh yeah, and beer.)

Calvin is looking for more FOAM-Cup Judges.

Also, a motion was passed to have the FOAM cup judging be a simple best-of-show judgment, due to the excessive amount of time it takes to fill out the judging sheets for each beer during a FOAM meeting.  If a contestant wants a judging sheet, she or he must bring a second bottle & a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that the judge(s) can fill out the sheet & mail it to the contestant. Calvin will put the new policy in the next newsletter.
  -----------------------------
The next FOAM Cups  (for 2007) will be:

Stout for the February meeting (to be held at the Frederick Brewing Company)

Marzen/Vienna beer for the May FOAM cup

  German wheat beer for August

  Belgian Strong Ale for November

(Darryl noted that people should be informed soon about the Belgian Strong Ale, due to the long aging process for that style)
  --------------------------
Several people expressed interest in chipping in for a 55 gallon Kentucky Barrel for conditioning a large batch of beer. Eric has the equipment to brew & ferment a large scale. Or we could brew & ferment separate batches & pool them in the barrel. (It was mentioned we should QC the beer before we pool it together)  If we get 10 people to chip in each could take away 5 gallons of beer.

It was also brought up that we need a new place for FOAMSTOCK.  Calvin might be able to host it, or we could have it at a campgrounds.

well, that's about it. Time for another beer!

  -Terry
